The first widespread snowfall fell on the mountains in the far western part of the state, but none reached this area. For those who don't like football, this is a bad time of year to watch TV. Even those of us who do like football, try to find other programs. The Internal Revenue Service began Friday mailing out 89.8 million federal tax forms covering the 1980 tax year and most taxpayers should have the packages by Jan. 10th. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the Episcopal Parish House in Tryon today from 12 noon until 5:30 p.m. The demand for blood is always high during the holiday season A Christmas present that gives satisfaction of giving blood so that others may heal and live. The Friends of the Library will meet tonight at 7:30 at the Library in Landrum. Dr. Joe P. Dunn will present a slide program on Turkey and Middle East. N.C. 28782 Fire Threatened Home Here The Tryon firemen were called out late Christmas Eve to the bank opposite First Federal Savings on South Trade Street where someone set the kudzu on fire. The fire burned up the High bank and into the woods leading to the Hamish Turner (former Lightner house) The firemen kept the fire from reaching the house in the below freezing weather. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Wm H Chaffee of Gillette Woods of Tryon for the Christmas week were their children and granddaughter: Miss Kerry Lynn Kilander and her mother Dr. Ellen E. Chaffee, of Boulder, Colorado; Henry E. Chaffee of New York City and Mr. and Mrs. Clark A. Chaffee of Gilberts, III. Miss June Brock of Hallmark and Robert Brock of Avila College, Kansas City, Mo are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Brock of Tryon for the holidays. Mr. and Mrs Jim Vining have returned to Rock Hill, S. C. after spending the Christmas holidays with their parents, Mr and Mrs. Seth M. Vining, Jr. Admiral Karl Doenitz who succeeded Adolf Hitler as ruler of Nazi Germany for 23 days at the end of World War II, died at age 89 last Thursday. MONDAY, DEC. 29,1980 Boneno-Justice Mr and Mrs. Luke A. Boneno of Charlotte, N. C. have announced the engagement of their daughter, Pamela Marie, to David Paul Justice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Justice of Tryon. Miss Boneno is a graduate of Myers Park High School and Converse College with a BA degree in Music. She is employed at Credit Thrift in Spartanburg. Mr. Justice is a graduate of Tryon High School and Western Carolina University with a B.S. in Industrial Technology. He is an engineer at Bommer Industries in Landrum. A July wedding is planned. Cold Thursday was the coldest Christmas on record in Western North Carolina with a low of 10 degrees reported at the Asheville Regional Airport. AtSt. Luke’s Ms. Myra Lynch has joined the Inhalation Therapy Department at St. Luke's Hospital as a trainee. A native of Polk County, he was the sen of Lettie Thompson Sain of Mill Spring and the late William Zack Sain. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of Silver Creek Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Mrs. Virginia Strickland Sain; three daughters, Mrs. Sharon Ledbetter of Hendersonville, Mrs. Sandra Blackwell and Mrs. Brenda Hart of Tryon; a son, Jerry Sain of Tryon; five sisters, Mrs. Minnie Conner of Saluda, Mrs Mattie Algood of Birden, Ill., Mrs. Sarah Davis of Lynn^ Mrs. Cordellia Searcy of Mill Spring, Mrs. Edna Lewis of Campobello, S. C.; four brothers, Arthur Sain of Eberton, Ga^ George Sain of Mill Spring, Roy Sain of Saluda and Zack Sain of Columbus; two stepdaughters four stepsons and six grandchildren. Services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in McFarland Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lee Gregory and Rev. Jerry Rumfelt officiating. Burial was in Silver Creek Baptist Church cemetery Mr. and Mrs. Seth A.
